A Child of Paros
– Un Enfant de Paros
Text: Alain Desauvage
Dive in Paros once upon a time
Un Enfant de Paros (A Child of Paros) by Yannis Rangoussis is a gripping narrative of the life of the 84-year-old author. Born in Paros during the Occupation, he becomes an apprentice tailor in Naxos in his adolescent years, and goes on to relocate to Athens, along with hundreds of other Parians in the 60s, in search of a better life.
His next destination is Paris, where he has lived to this day, coming back to his native island every summer.
In fact, the book is not merely about Yannis Rangoussis’ life; it’s the odyssey of a Greek who belongs to the generation that survived the Occupation famine, the civil war, and the poverty of the 50s, then left their island or village to settle and prosper in Athens or abroad – their new homeland.
The book was written in French by Yannis Rangoussis with the help of his wife, Claire, published by Anagennisi editions in Paros and is on sale at their bookstore (12€).
