The festival of Profitis Ilias
The panigiri in Paros is the spirit of its people, is a significant event, following each religious holiday, memorial day or moments related to nature and its fruits, the wheat and the grape, the bread and the wine, the sea and the fishermen.
A panigiri is an experiencee and customs are a practice. In a place such as Paros, tradition lives on and this is a blessing.
“Panigiria and glendia” served as the showcase of the villagers’ affection, love and companionship. Competition was not absent, though, especially between neighbourhoods or even families, about whose party would be the most lively one.
This type of festival always followed a certain ritual.
The revellers, responsible for successfully organising the festivities would decide on everything, from catering to singing and the order of dancing.
